Same thing happened to me last winter. I also Heard about this so many times that even on my new transmission I never do the 6th to 5th down shift just because I know it seems to be a weak link.

I was like that too, but honestly the HR runs better with age in my opinion. I would double think taking it spaces to save the added mileage, but then I realized I was enjoying every single mile I put on, and that's the reason you buy a car like this.
now that you asked, I don't think I ever downshift without rev matching. Ill try to not rev match and see what happens. if I downshift slowly to 5th it doesn't happen though. my main concern is the tranny not going into gear when going 90 mph or more. I don't get it! If the clutch is disengaged the synchro should not be a concern.

Lastly, shifting to second from high rpms is slow and notchy. I hate it. wish I had a bmw or porsche tranny or something.

08 with 50K...bought a year ago with 37K...perfect..zero problems with Osiris Tune and other modest mods (see sig). Only thing I replaced was slightly frayed belt at 50K (could have gone another 10K easy).

08 with 22k miles as of now...

Everything runs and works like new, however I do have second gear grinds everyone once in a while if I take it close to redline and then shift into 3rd (gear not going into gate). When this happens, all gears get notchy and bitchy, then it goes away by the time I take it out again....not sure if this normal or if I should take it to the dealer to get pre-emptive work done (I purchased an extended warranty when I bought the car).

HMMM..I bring her to 7300 shifting into 3rd...no problems. I don't ram it..and don't drop the clutch hard either..just a tad of feathering it. Finesse is the key.

Agreed, it is fine if you row through them with a bit of finesse and now slamming the gears is where it gets finicky, however I could slam into 2nd before and break the tires loose no issues, but now it seems every once in a while, it doesnt like it so much. Now it wont go into the gate and one time this happened, getting into 3rd and 4th was a bit difficult (but this went away after I let the car sit and took it out the next trip).

So not sure if it is just our gear box being "bitchy" or if it is something that is due to the clutch/csc issue I have been reading about.

08 Nogaro Red Z bought brand new in April of 2008 when I was 20, traded after two years of owning an 06 Redline Z, today reached 102,000 Miles. Broke her in at the local 1/4mile track , driven hard not abused with many many runs in "Mexico/Canada" lol . Oil changes at 6-7k mile intervals. only thing to ever go bad was an idler pulley, simply replaced bearing myself which cost $10-$15 (whole idler pulley part cost $130+) .Still runs like a beast, Very happy with it

^ so your 08 has 102k miles? Damn that's a ton load for the year! How does the HR age as the miles get higher? 6spd or auto? If 6spd, any tranny issues?

yep about 25K miles per year, my ex used to live an easy 200miles away lol that plus driving around there and then back home added up quick. So that times 3 years and about every other weekend racked up miles lol. As for how well its aged I swear as it gets more miles it gets stronger lol transmission is good too but I feel I may be developing a 5th grind if shifting fast but Im gonna try out a different transmission fluid in a few days. I think the most costly thing I had to replace was the spark plugs lol they're $21 a piece from Nissan and thats not their retail price.
I never had the Concentric Slave Cylinder issue when I still had the stock one (which I did beat on quite often) but I upgraded to the Heavy Duty one when I did my clutch, which did not go bad or anything I just wanted a set up that doesnt feel like Im pressing my foot in a pile of poop.

awesome, that's good to know. When (mileage) did you first start notcing the 5th gear issue? It turns out that the 5th gear issue is pretty common in the HR's. I've done a lot of research on it. It also seems the HR 6spd transmission is picky with what fluid you put inside. In my opinion, OEM 75w-85 is the right stuff to put in there. What are you running right now? The HR engine is robust. I feel that it gets stronger as the miles rack up.

It actually started a thousand miles ago , I've been running Redline MT-85 mixed with lightweight shockproof for about 20K miles now. Haven't had a problem until the slight 5th gear grind. I'll try MT-90 soon with shockproof .

I don't see how a thicker fluid (MT90) would help. I say go back to OEM and give it a shot. Does this grind happen when up shifting into 5th or down shifting into 5th? Worst case scenario is you gotta get a used low mileage transmission. They're not that expensive anymore.

Thicker fluid will help the synchros mesh a little better. It grinds only when quickly upshifting into 5th at anything over 3.5K rpm, if I take my sweet time and let the RPMs drop a bit its fine. I dont know I might get a used trans but I may just try and fix it Ive done it on other transmissions so it cant be that much different. Im also looking for a spare HR long block to do a little N/A build on myself.

2007, 99k and some change. Bought the car with 85k - Hell I even did a Dyno Day yesterday lol

256WHP on a stingy dyno, Also I need to change out the Diff/Tranny Oils, New Air Filters and Spark Plugs could be used at this age as well I would imagine.

No problems as of yet save for water and air somehow getting in my clutch lines a month or 2 ago - flushed with Motul and it's been all good since then.

The VQ is a trooper, Since our HR's also have stronger guts - I see these things lasting like KA's do lol

what kind of dyno to be exact? On a Dynojet you should be around ~270 like most other HR's. Just curious to see how much whp a higher mileage HR would put down on a Dynojet.

Yea the HR's have stronger guts, but the transmissions suck!

The transmissions are better than previous years, only thing that sucked was the factory CSC. Upgrade to a HD CSC and you shouldnt have any problems. My stock one never broke but I upgraded anyway

Dynojet 242 I wanna say but I'm sure I'm wrong on the 242 part. Dyno was being mad stingy that day and a lot of us that ran that day think there may have been some user error as well with it's operation (we were being ran in 4th, etc)

Also I need to change my tranny and diff oils, air filter, spark plugs (I'm kissing 100k...it's time)

Mine had 43,000 when sold, never had one single problem with the car. Ever. Driven kinda hard (got on it every time I drove it).

There's plenty of Z's in Houston, but I saw one with that kick-@ss 2007+ hood and sighed. I miss my HR. Wish I could have both...such a good-looking car!!!
