Andrew, Charles do you guys recall the size of the top bolt (Oil Temp on HR) ?? is it M12 x P1.25 ?

am asking this because GReddy already made an Oil Temp/Press Adapter in different sizes http://www.greddy.com/products/displ...SubCategory=60 Its the same adapter which replaces the Oil Pan Drain Plug.

Thanks in Advance.

Bumping an old thread....

but how does one remove the nipples that are on the hard pipes. Mainly the one with the thermostat and the one on the rear coolant pipe the drains the throttle body. The pic show putting in a NPT plug, but you have to get the nipple out 1st?

Thanks!

i updated post #57 with a working link to the original pic i had posted.

str8: The barbs you are talking about removing are press fit... you actually just pull them out!!!

what i personally do is just smash the barb snug in a vice and just use my hands to twist the part back and forth to work it loose, then out it comes! just be careful not to crack the aluminum by putting too much stress at angles where the barb is pressed in. FYI its a point of no return... they will never be tight again should you decide you want to put them back.

crap i need to post some pics here with some updates to my cooling system plumbing. i really cleaned that mess up.

where the stock steel pipe on the passenger side has the 1 bolt o-ring flange that seals to the aluminum coolant outlet housing pipe that bolts to the heads... we machined a new flange to replace the steel pipe with a clean aluminum one with no bungs or ports at all.

What I did with that ugly heater hose that used to come down the passenger side of the engine then turn down into the steel pipe... We machined a new bung out of aluminum and welded it way back on the aluminum outlet housing, then I cut the heater hose so that just after the natural location of the bleed valve, it simply turns 90 degrees straight down into the aluminum part.... WTF did anyone need that stupid heater hose running halfway down the side of the engine, I will never know.

I love doing this stuff... I have a twin turbo 350z that is easier to work on then a stock one! Only sacrifice in comfort was the AC.... but that was the big leap that let me move the PS and make this all possible.

Charles,

Post pics!!!!! I love these littel mods. they really do make the car easier to work on.

Str8..........I found it easier to cut off the nipples with an air saw or a cut off wheel. once the nipple was cut flush with the part, then I just drilled out the nipple! After that, I drilled and tapped the hole for the corresponding fitting.

The pathfinder rear coolant pipe I have has a slip on hose fitting instead of that o-ring/bolt like the stock. I cut the end of my stock gold pipe and am using a 35mm hose between the 2.

my only concern is when i was pulling off the heater hose the goes into the passenger compartment, it started to move on me. I sure hope I didnt break a weld inside the car. The driver side pipe doesnt move at all. hmmm

thanks for the updates guys!. i'll try a vice, then a cutoff. its 1/8npt after that right?

I forgot about something I discovered several months ago...........

you can buy an HR thermostat housing. It is exactly the same as the DE housing, but it doesn't have the extra nipple on it! It is a perfect fit....same gasket and all!

i am not sure the plug size str8, we just welded mine shut on the rear pipe. just take it to the hardware store and compare the NPT plugs and see which is the best fit for you.

I used 1/8" NPT plugs on the rear coolant pipe.....and a 3/8" NPT plug in the T-stat.

yeah you got any regular plastic T from a autoparts store, eventually it will crack. happened to me. Go with a metal T instead, when ever you get the chance, just to have that peace of mind.

No issues after lots of 25 psi runs and plenty of dyno time. NO LEAKS! Works beautifully.

Default Trying to break it down!

Okay,

I think I about got this figured out to what I want to do......

I already own the pathfinder mod, just haven't installed it yet........

I plan on doing the pathfinder mod install, but removing its thermostat and letting it be always open...
(not my pics - courtesy of rrmedicx)
I'm gonna remove the PFinder thermostat:

Fluid flow at all times with no thermo.....

I then plan to delete the oem oil cooler/warmer:

350z HR engine Oil Filter Stud
[15213] STUD-OIL FILTER
Product SKU: 15213-31U00
Your Price: $6.83

In doing so,
Remove the passenger side water pipe and weld shut the two nipples near the timing cover:
Top nipple - Crosses over with bypass line and weld shut drivers side heater pipe fwd facing nipple
Bottom nipple - feeds oil cooler/warmer.
Rear nipple:
Needs to be cut and welded/plugged since PFinder log doesn't have a port for it.

Pretty much need to have this done:

Passenger side heater pipe forward pointing nipple welded shut:

Greddy adapter
I have one that i already have on my upper radiator hose:

Water inlet/thermostat:
Replace with HR unit and no nipple will be there. OR thread and tap with an 1/8 NPT plug:

I will most likely just buy the HR unit.

I plan to keep the heater on the car...........I don't daily drive, but if i ever crash at the track or over heat for whatever issue, i can roll the windows down and run the heater on high and *maybe aid the engine from damage....

At this point I'm uncertain about the throttle body hoses.....i may remove those suckers too..

This look about right?

That's exactly what I did.
I gutted the thermostat on the pathfinder mod because it has an o ring that seals the t-stat housing. Check it out, you'll see. I figured it would be better than adding liquid gasket.
I thought the same thing about the heater. On full blast, the heater drops the coolant temps up to 10 deg.
I connected the TB hoses together for now.
I installed a Stillen oil cooler.

I have noticed a longer warm up period.
I'm not sure of all the downfalls of doing all of these mods but it does clean up the engine bay.
