I have a question for anybody that has done this mod - what size is the rubber hose that runs from the passenger side hard pipe (#8) down to the oil cooler?

It's #2 in this diagram originally posted by Jason.

Just measured the OD of the metal hard pipe, and it is 13mm or 1/2 inch. Visually it looks to be the same size in and out. So the ID of the rubber hose would be 1/2 inch.

I'm going to do this mod all at once this winter. going with an aftermarked air to oil cooler with adapter using the HR oil stud, HR thermostat, etc. I think I'll switch to Stans coolant at the same time.

you can buy an HR thermostat housing. It is exactly the same as the DE housing, but it doesn't have the extra nipple on it! It is a perfect fit....same gasket and all!

about to order some parts... but before I do, does the HR thermostat come with a gasket or is it separate?

Thanks, the hard pipe on the outlet size looked to be about 1/2" but I just wanted to check to make sure the inlet hose was the same.

350z HR engine Oil Filter Stud
[15213] STUD-OIL FILTER
Product SKU: 15213-31U00
Your Price: $6.83

So I just placed an order with Courtesy Nissan, and they removed this part from my order because it is on back order with no release date from Nissan... Has anyone bought this, or know of another part number or vehicle that would have the same filter stud?

I got mine like 2 weeks ago but I had to wait 2 weeks for it to come in.

Question for those that went the HR thermostat route.

Did you reuse the DE bolts for the thermostat or did you get the HR Bolts?

The HR thermostat has a higher profile and I don't feel that the DE bolts have enough thread, it has like 3-4 turns into the motor that is about it.

Interesting? how much thicker is it? measure it off and purchase bolts accordingly by adding the mm thickness to the length required??

.........im sure at Nissan, the bolts are $2-$4 bucks each or some crazy number....you can probably just get some metric at local auto parts store....Probably like M8-1.25-XXmm......etc...

the nismo t-stats aren't really needed. they just open up at a lower temperature but they are many times more expensive than a brand new stock t-stat.

I finally got the bolts from Nissan today and placed them side by side with the DE thermostat bolt. The Hr bolts are slightly longer not by much though but I got them for peace of mind

doesnt even look like a 5mm difference in length.... and bolts come in 5mm incriments.

looks like Nissan made a custom length bolt?

im sure DE bolts are fine

Yeah, I would agree that they would most likely be fine...

What is the torque spec on the FSM on the HR diagram versus the FSM Torque spec on the DE diagram???..

if the torque spec is the same then the axial tension on the bolt required is the same and they are only lengthening the bolt due to the thicker part and for more thread engagement...as you can see the shank is greater on the silver bolt over the DE bolt.....by about 3 threads..

OMG, I used bolt from ACE hardware at $0.33 each.
are the axial loads going to be the same? what about the bearing colateral stress?

LOL, its a plain jane bolt to hold a gasketed t-stat housing down. Nissan is not making magic bolts with odd thread pitch, etc

sure it is...so whats the pressure exerted on the part......what is the joint design strength....

Nissan actually does make an odd thread pitch...........for the sizes they use typically everything is 1.25 thread pitch where the metric standard everywhere else is 1.5 or even 1.75...........Nissan uses 1.25 everywhere pretty much.....which in turn is odd against the standard.....

That plus I have a few Nissan Design engineers I have become friends with and i have been fortune to find out the grade of the Nissan Green bolts and their gold shoulder/tapered shank suspension bolts, etc....
Hey i track my car, and the last thing im gonna do is save a dollar on a bolt, thermostat housing, or anywhere really........

Is the bolt you bought from ACE hardware the typical ace hardware 8.8 , 10.9 strength rating...??? or does it even have a stamp..??

I'm not trying argue......just saying...there ARE difference and requirements...
with out knowning the design loads there is no way to tell.........

now sure, the bolt can be a grade 10.9 from nissan.......and its loaded at less than half its strength so it has a 1.5 Margin of safety.......

So then using an 8.8 would lower the Margin of safety but still be positive with an 8.8 grade bolt....

I'm an ME that deals with highly loaded fasteners of all types in the Aerospace industry.....so i tend to at least understand GLEN25's concerns on the bolt and i don't blame him for asking nor buying a bolt to ease his thoughts and concerns...
