Default Gas Tank Recall?

Has anyone heard anything about a possible recall due to a crush zone problem with the gas tank? This came from a source in Japan.

There are no official recalls on the 350z gas tanks as of today.

I haven't heard of any catastrophic failures. Plenty of people even on this board have been rear-ended with no gas tank failures. I'd bet its just a malicious rumor.

A quick check of the NHTSA shows NO posts on the matter. If there were going to be a recall, the NHTSA would be on top of it. I think that's enough to convince me.

Have you ever seen Fight Club? If so, remember when Ed Norton discusses recalls and the equation that is used in order to determine if they are made public or not.

The NHTSA forces recalls on manufacturers after an appropriate conclusion of an investigation and after there have been complaints filed. There are no complaints filed.

(consumer protection has come a long way since 30-40 years ago with Ford)

I certainly hope it's a rumor. A reliable, concerned friend called me with the info, which he got from a Nissan employee in Japan. The recall has not been issued yet, but he said it was forthcoming. Oh well...let's hope it's a mistake.

Yeah that's all well and true, but if Z owners are BBQing, Nissan will likely release a fix, allbeit, at our own expense. Although it should be a recall, I'd pay money not to become a Kabob!

He said it would be a RECALL. I can't imagine the bad press Nissan would get if we were required to pay for our own safety fix.

Let's hope it's just a rumor. Would hate to be driving a pinto. Although, ya never know with Nissan and quality nowadays (cant believe I put those two words in the same sentence)!
