Hello all,

2006 350z 72k miles Touring

So I've recently been running into some stuff on my 350z and two main points are concerning me and I was hoping to get some help/insight.

1. My radiator fans. Only one turns on even with the AC on. Is the second one temp controlled? Does it only turn on when the engine reaches a certain temperature? I haven't had any overheating issues, I'm just worried is all.

2. Rust. I plan on working on the vehicle to make it a track car but after seeing this should I even throw my money into it?

Pictures/videos below.

The two fans are used at different speeds. One comes on at low speeds, or at idle. The other only activates at high speeds, if the water temps remain high. Unless you've been experiencing overheating at speed, I wouldn't worry too much. As for the pics, I don't see much to be concerned with. Did you know that all the steel panels in your Z have been zinc coated at the factory? Besides that, it looks like the undercoating on your chassis remains intact. Scrub those sections a bit, and you might find it's mud and not rust in those areas.

So the passenger fan only comes on when I’m driving and at a certain speed? Well that’s good to know!

As for the rust I did not know that , would it still be alright to spray some spray paint that’s rust Protected under their just as a further precaution?

Only if you're certain it's really rust. If it's just a contaminant (mud, dust, paint, etc.), it won't help. If I were you, I'd ignore it. The bottom of my race Z looks far worse...

Well I live in Houston so somewhere around that, I haven't done a tone of research

So after idling for about 10 minutes, no AC and revving it about twice no fans kicked on and my temperature didn't rise at all.

So one fan is for AC and the other is for cooling I guess? I still have yet to see my passenger one kick on...

Sorry, I'm just really concerned...

If you're really that concerned, get a good code reader and check the BCM section for any codes. If there's a defective switch or relay preventing the second fan from kicking on, there should be a code in memory. And before you ask, there's no CEL unless it's a safety or major mechanical defect being detected.

Also, check out MSR-Houston when it comes time to learn how to drive on a closed circuit.

Alright,

Thank you very much. What BCM code reader would be good for this type of stuff?
