Since COVID almost two years ago, we have been working from home and not much to do. I do have a frontier that I use around town.
Can someone please help me figure out my issues with my top, when I first got the car the top would go 3/4ths of the way down before stopping and now when I hold the button the windows go down the seat move forward but then nothing happens from there, I hear the motor working but nothing moves and then when I do get it to move after a couple times pressing it it will only budge a little bit before stopping, the back lid will open but the top won’t lift

If everything is else is functioning properly and you can hear the 5th bow motor engaging, then it might be something with the 5th bow motor binding or the auto-closure wire being out of alignment.

Just a guess, though. As indicated by my post on 12-15-18, there are a number of things that have to go right in order for the top to function properly.

I attached a couple documents which might help you out. One is the roof section of the FSM (RF) and the other is the TSB that was issued for the 5th bow not closing properly.
Attached Files
File Type: pdf
TSB NTB03-122.pdf (4.07 MB, 437 views)

SOLVED

I had an issue with my top not functioning, not even the pre-sequence actions were working (window roll down, seat incline). I took it to a mechanic and they found it had been water damage to the soft top module. Diagnosis below -
  • Electrical Diagnosis RO 23 Jan 19 90.00 360.00 Convertable inop Tech RO: Diagnose inoperative convertible top? Test powers / Grounds at module - OK. Test brake pedal switch operation - OK. Test roof raise switch operation - OK. Power windows noted not lowering and or passenger seat not moving forward. Suspect possible control module failure. Need more time to further confirm control module.
  • Electrical Diagnosis RO 23 Jan 19 120.00 240.00 Confirm control module failure. Tech RO: Confirm possible soft top module failure? Remove module and inspect. Found burnt traces on circuit board. Burnt traces lead to 5th bow actuator circuit. Powered actuator with auxiliary power supply - found that actuator unlocking and locking as it should. Also confirmed power window down request circuit and 5th bow raise/lower motor working correctly. Recommend replacement of soft top control unit.
  • Electrical Service RO 23 Jan 19 60.00 120.00 Install customer supplied control module Tech RO: Replaced soft top control module. After replacement found roof warning lamp now illuminated on dash. Roof still doesn't not open. Found power at switch now also although switch is not functional. Bypassed switch temporarily and was able to have power windows begin to roll down and roof automatically unlatch from locked position but then stops and does not continue from this point forward. Roof also doesn't relatch if close is requested. Roof needs switch on dash replaced and further diagnosis to determine why it doesn't continue to
  • Electrical Diagnosis RO 23 Jan 31 80.40 482.40 Diagnose incomplete convertable retraction Tech RO: Noticed windows retract upon command but roof and passenger seat do not move. Diagnose passenger seat first. Found seat not receiving command from module to tilt forward. Traced issue to corroded diode in wiring harness behind drivers seat in storage compartment. Corrosion was due to water pooling in storage compartment. Replaced diode with new item, retest, windows, seat and roof work as commanded. Note gas struts in roof not correctly mounted. Clips are missing. Temporarily secured in place with zip ties. Will need correct clips installed to prevent struts from popping off.
