After that error sign, i deleted all my previous files on sd card and re did the whole thing and now, i can't even press on navigation button. it's greyed out.

 

I have had this installed for a while now, but I have one question... how do you route the antenna over behind the guage cluster.... maybe I'm tarded but the dash section seemed a bit dense and I didn't see the method of removal/jurry riggin it.

both the plenio and the magellan 1700 have one video input.

 

I recently bought a used Plenio VXA-2100 off of eBay for $89.95, but the seller did not include the remote (no so big of a deal) or the external antenna (a very big deal).

The seller tried to tell me the newer units did not require an external antenna and that Plenio switched to internal antennas for the VXA-2100.

I knew from this thread that the 2100 needed an external antenna to work and of course when I tried the unit, it did not pick up a GPS signal.

I sent the unit back through ebay buyer protection (another $20 out of pocket) and the seller said I took the unit apart and removed the warranty sticker (whatever that means) and that he would not refund my money. I returned the unit exactly as I received it.

I've been looking for a 2100 for a long time and it has been a disappointment that this one did not work.

I thought I would share my experience to warn any others that might buy a unit from ebay. The seller's ebay username is hamilton1870. Not trying to bad mouth anyone, just want to take care of my fellow Z drivers.

I'm still trying to decide if I should wait for another 2100 to pop up or get the Magellan 1700.

 

definetly get the Magellan 1700. I have been using it for about 4 months now, and havent had one issue. it gets a gps lock very fast, had great support with firmware and map updates, and is just overall much higher quality. its worth the extra cost because once its in there, its a pain to get it out to fix or tweak, and i had to do that more than once with the Plenio. It froze, sometimes the screen wouldn't come on, gps wouldn't get a fix, etc... Dont bother finding and modding the plenio.

get the Magellan, or you could also look into some of the new 7" android tablets that are coming out...

Yeah, an Android tablet would be awesome. I have a Droid phone and really like the Android system. If I have any problems with the Plenio, I'll look into the tablets.

Thank you all for the contribution, I got one from eBay and it's working great! Took a few tries to get it working but it's totally worth it. One of the best mods for the money.

 

this ****ing pos navi stopped working. it was working well and one day it decided to give me error. so i reinstalled new map but now navigation button is greyed out. i can't click on it. wtf am i suppose to do now?

 

^ Doesn't that mean that the system can't detect a navi program? You can buy mine.

 

To accomplish the same thing in the past for navigation or ham radio, etc. - I just purchased a 4 channel (2 stereo sources) mix board (like a DJ would use) that you can get for $50-$100. Then I ran my front left and right pre-amp outputs to 2 channels, and my other audio source (navigation, etc.) to the other 2 channels. I set the sound levels for the navigation to what sounded appropriate, and then I ran the output from the mix board to the amplifier. This way, it's all coming out of the same speakers and it is just mixing the audio together.

I've used this same setup for my past 3 vehicles, and it is a great way to do it if you have pre-amp outputs and amplifiers.

I'm wondering if someone would be so kind as to give a little bit more detailed of an instruction set for the unzipping and transferring of the files downloaded from Megaupload.

Since there is a Part 1 and a Part 2 to the SD card download, I'm a bit confused as to how to merge the files into 1 complete set when unzipping. Since both Part 1 and Part 2 contain different files within the same folder names, I think there may be some issues with needing to replace the "existing" files (from Part 1) with the "new" files (from Part 2) when you unzip Part 2 to the same location that you have just unzipped Part 1. I went ahead and said "Yes to All" when prompted to Replace any duplicate files/folders, hoping for the best.

When I add the CONTENTS of the SD card file from the unzipped download to the SD card that came with the Plenio, my navigation button is greyed out when I start the unit up. (I remember reading greygooser151's post #400 on page 20 of this thread about the contents rather than the actual "SD card" folder, but I still have the same problem even after following his advice.)

Also, after extracting all the files, I still have some folders that remain as zip folders within the OCN8 folder; namely the "branding" and "data" folders.

Can anyone verify that there should be the following transferred to the Plenio SD card:

-MobileNavigator folder with a C31 file and an application file within
-OCN8 folder with numerous files and folders within (12 total items)

or have I done something wrong with the unzipping?

Finally, I had some trouble getting the files to download from Megaupload and I will post my solution when I get a chance in case anyone else runs into the same problem in the future.

Colecat, Ive ben messing with mine for a little while before finally installing it.

Its comes down to how you have it modded. You don't need all the states' POIs delete the states you won't ever use, which for me is everything west of illinois

If you need some help let me know. It only freezes due to older CE tech trying to run a more advanced NAV system. if you have OS 1.62 stick to a 2gb SD if you have 1.64 get a transcend 133 4gb card. either way its not a $1500 nav, although for me it works better than the OEM and looks badass in the car.
