You are losing it man!!!!I agree with Tom....If you decide to build again !!!
You are still at the top of the list Mike, just having a hard time calling it quits on this car. I hate feeling like a quitter
I keep dragging my feet a bit to see if I fall out of love with it and can move on. I may post a feeler thread in the classifieds with all the parts to see what I could move quickly

I think you might be getting confused with how the process works. When checking bearing clearances, the mains and girdle and installed AND torqued in sequence to spec with moly lube....exactly as you would if you were assembling the engine outright. The bearing clearances will not change.
The offset/camber is extremely nasty...not my taste but a very complete car nonetheless.
You should pick up something fun and different. I just got one of these for a daily (arrives next week
):

when my Datsun is done being built I am going to build the hell out of this.

OMG just caught up with this (have been off the boards for a couple months). After the unbelievable original thread with however many rebuilds, now this!
Wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide to do mate!!!

Would definitely find a new shop to do my build, but don't know if I would throw all that money at this project and not at least to get to enjoy it. I think Chris was being a nice guy and trying to give them the chance to fix their **** up. After the 1st engine popped(by no fault of my own) I would have been at a new shop.
In the past, when failures occurred, I would launch into the new build at full speed to get back up and running ASAP. After this last failure, I have taken as much time as needed to evaluate the cause of this particular failure and the steps to be taken to build a motor that will handle my abuse and stay together. It has also been slowed in equal parts by a dampened enthusiasm and the sluggish economy.
The build will be underway again soon. I have someone interested in possibly buying my completed project and if that happens I will buy one of three cars owned by other members that are up for sale.
If I keep the car, I will become like Raj and have gauges for everything with baseline readings of pressures and temps so I can monitor everything like a hawk and know where the car is at in terms of heat and such. EGT, oil pressure, oil temp, coolant temp and possibly intake temp are on the list.
As this whole process begins to close in on six figures I just hope that at some point I get a fast car out of it. The parts that are most difficult are walking past the shell up on stands in the garage every morning and running into other people around town who know my car and ask me to meet up to hang out or run one of their friends.
I have met way too many nice people through this community, both in the Mid-A and at the airstrip event, for me to not stay active in F/I and on the boards.
