I'm going with the Upgrade Rebuild + GMT billet servo + upgraded cooler
He doesnt recommend valvebody upgrade because the higher pressure may break a clutch drum or something else, and it will void the warranty.
I may add the Transgo VB kit later on, but for now I dont need extra pressure in the tranny

After reading your posts, I think you're getting hosed by the tranny shop. Rebuilding a tranny is very complicated and having a shop who doesn't really know trannies is going to be a disaster. You need to talk with GTM or TurboTim@SFR and have them do it for you.

I think the folks you are dealing with do not know what they are doing. You have been warned. Go with GTM or SFR as Coachk recommended.

The only reason I can think of why someone would discourage the transgo VB is that it might shift harsher than the stock setup. It should be better for the tranny since it cuts down on slippage and heat. Transmission shops in Cali have bad reps, so I would be very careful who I used here, but I don't know how they are where you live.

this is a transmission shop with a good reputation.
I can understand where he is coming from generally speaking, but I don't believe he has any experience with this tranny.
I will have someone install the valvebody kit after I get my car back on the road.

Is there any reason to go with the billet servo from GTM?

I'm looking at a $6000 tranny job if I go with the GTM built tranny and no warranty.
This route is a little cheaper and IMO, safer.

where is SFR located? I have never heard of this shop before yesterday.

If you don't upgrade your valve body now, your transmission will fail again.

I know it is expensive to do things right the first time, but it is usually more expensive to do them twice

Let us know if you need anything, we are here to help.

BTW, I might have missed it but how much power are you making?

$6k? Is that right George? That's not what a level 3 built trans is listed as on the website. Is that with transit and install etc?

In the high performance industry there is rarely a warranty of any worth. All you have is reputation and integrity to rely upon. GTM came through for me when they didn't have to. I mean really stepped up. I have read that SFR has done right by others also. These sponsors on this site have a history of good customer service and honest business practices. That should be worth something to you.

Maybe the guys local to you are good guys, but how much experience with this particular trans (RE5R05A) do they have? If they do a good job, post up. It's good to know where good service can be had for these transmissions. I know when I called up all my local shops, not a single one had worked on this unit. They all wanted to though. I didn't want to be the guinea pig to a shop that would not be beholden to this community at least through their reputation.

George, I just ordered a Billet Servo from you, can you make sure its shipped out ASAP, I'd also like to place an order for the Transgo Valve body kit now also, if you could PM me a price.

I'm making 373whp/322wtq on a DynoDyanmics

The $6000 number was, $4500 for the tranny shipped + $1200 in labor (quote)

and it is not possible for me to bring the car to cali for GTM to do the install, even though I really wish I could.

Maybe the guys local to you are good guys, but how much experience with this particular trans (RE5R05A) do they have?
as far as I know, none, but what other choices do I have?

Here is the price for our Stage 3 built 5AT:

http://gtmotorsports.com/product.php...cat=347&page=1

For those that don't want to click the link the price is $3,961 (including the TC) plus shipping.

Installation of course is additional. (~$500) As stated by Raj high performance parts are never warrantied, but if something goes wrong that is on our end we will take care of it - anyone on this site will tell you that.

As others have stated in this thread, from what you are posting that the shop is telling you, it seems has they have no clue what they are talking about, which really scares me. I would start talking to another shop in your area if you want to keep things local, we are just looking out for your best interest.

I understand what everyone is saying, and I agree. But the fact is that I have already given this shop the go-ahead to order the parts, so I will have to ride this one out. I will ask him to install the VB mod now, to prevent damage. Increase in pressure but decrease in heat?

This whole situation just makes me really hate automatic transmissions

Give them a copy of the at.pdf file from the field service manual for your model year/make. It can be downloaded for free from various boards. They will need it to do this right. Good luck.

thanks for the help everyone.
If I'd go through this again I'd do things very differently.
I'll put this one to a learning experience =(
