Should be fine. I think it's more used to protect your o2 sensor wires in case you scrape from under the car.

You should be ok, but it will support them a little and help dampen out some NVH, if you can grab one from a salvage yard it'd probably be worth it.

^^Tony i read an article online that tested the art pipes on a 350z with simple mods and an aftermarket intake. I remember the article saying you weren't pleased with the results so you got a z with stock intake and it produced even better results. I have jwt intakes on my z, should I switch back to my stock intakes?

For the most part, stock intakes have proven to be the most consistent and work perfectly well, most aftermarkets suffer from heat-soak and don't seem to help anything re power.

Do you have the VQ35HR? Because the HR is already very optimized. Intakes would only really be for altering the sound.

If you have the VQ35DE, then you'd need all the spacers on top of the intake (cold air) for gains.

Don't forget a tune afterwards too.

Stevehl,

In my experience, I prefer the stock intake with a clean, stock, paper filter.

The stock intake keeps hot air out better than any other CAI and it keeps your engine cleaner than any other CAI.
And assuming the stock paper filter is clean, it dynos every bit as good as any CAI.

In fact, I've seen many aftermarket CAI's lose power on the dyno. Many of them draw in hot air from behind the radiator... the lose fitting heat shields don't work very well.

^^Yea I know the stock filter is already great, and one of the best options for intakes, along with a k and n drop in filter. But I was mainly asking if there was that big of a difference between the aftermarket intake you tested and the stock intake since you did decide to do another test on the stock intake, and got better results. I have both my stocks hr intakes and the jwt hr intakes, so I can swap it out if its that big of a difference.

Default Art pipes worth the money??

Hey guys,

So I installed the art pipes a few days ago. Does anyone feel it wasn't worth the money? I'm not saying its a bad product, it looks sexy and gives my nismo a nice growl. But other than that, I didnt really notice a difference in power. Is the power not supposed to be felt by the butt dyno and only a big difference on paper? Someone said after 3k rpm it feels like someone opened the flood gates, maybe I was expecting too much out of them?

There is also some hissing near the passenger side, could that be an exhaust leak or is that normal?

What were you expecting? The "butt" dyno thing isn't going to work for 5hp and the 3k analogy is more for sound than power.

There are a number of independent dynos that show an increase in both hp and torque. They definitely respond very well to cam tuning so you need to get her tuned to see the true gains

Don't know what else you have on your car in the way of power mods.
I'll put it this way,ART pipes or any other components you add to your car are
a ingredient of a recipe to get more hp.Unless you have done those additional
mods, plus a tune done by someone that knows a Z to make it all work, you are not
gonna feel the full results of your investment.
If you were expecting pin-back-in-your-seat performance, you should have spent
big bucks on FI.

I believe that "feelings" and the butt dyno were discounted 8 years ago.

you need a tune... i dont know why people dont understand that bolt on NA mods to literally nothing to our cars w out a tune. Even a lame tune like a Cobb will be incredible difference on any car even stock, let alone w any breathing mods.. factory targets for fuel etc are going to constantly fight your mods away.. get a flash , change the targets and enjoy.

end thread.

i was running stock cats, aam y, nismo exhaust until swapping out the cats for art pipes. I read so many reviews/threads on how much faster the car feels; i probably hyped it up too much for myself haha Either that or I really need a tune. I might just sell these, so if anyone is looking to buy hr art pipes v2, which ive used for a couple of miles, i might be making a for sale thread soon.

The problem is that using how it "feels" as an indicator of performance is not a good measurement tool

If you're done with your NA mods then a tune would help to maximize your gains

First of all, ART pipes is better than other test pipes. Research on the forums or also on G35/G37/370z forums. Lots of low end gains (2500-4000 rpm) which is mostly noticeable in DD driving that regular test pipes don't offer. Also the sound is just better than other test pipes. Doesn't really make hissing / rasping sounds.

If you are lazy, a quick summary of why ART pipes are worth the $ is because they have proven gains, granted you get tuned afterwards.

You may be running lean like I did, leading you to not feel as much gains as everyone says, and your tuner can fix that for you. I gained (at the worst spots on the power curve) 15-20 rwhp & 35-40 rwtq @ 2500-3500 rpm. You likely need the tune to get everything optimized to make this worth your $.
