Yeah could be, or also that the Z does not stand out in one area of performance, but is just an all around good ride. Guys that have the new GTO's have been b*tching about the car mags and car TV shows ignoring their favorite rides as well. So i guess the Z is not the only one with that problem.

Default Front Tire Replacement- No Issue

I had my front tires replaced due to "Tire Roar" by local dealer without any issue or problems. '03 Touring with 16K miles. Much quieter ride!

Yes G35 coupes do have this problem it seems.

I eventually sold my 2003 Enth 8 months ago at 40,000 miles and after 3 sets of tires. I traded it for a new G35 coupe with the 19 inch wheels (not specifically because of the tire noise, but because I needed something a little more suited to my commute). After 9,000 miles on the G35 I have the familiar wawawawawa noise.

So, I am only one data point, but in my experience the same issue exists.

With this information I assume the problem will happen with the Sedan as well.

my question is this:

are there aftermarket alternatives that solve the problem?

it seems apparent that Nissan doesn't to want to address the tire feathering issue. i know it's bs but there are few alternative's after the warranty expires.

i really don't want to get rid of my car. if the fix only costs me a couple of grand that would be better than having to buy tires all the time. i still think you are getting a lot of sports car for the money so it wouldn't bother me as much.

183 page thread. Gotta be some kind of internet record.

Been looking at Goodyear F1's and BF Goodrich KDW 2's for eventual replacements to the stock rubber. Hard to tell what the tire noise would be compared to the stock treads by just reading reviews on tire web sites.

just noticed feathering on mine at 16000 miles, took to dealership and with no problems theyre correcting it and putting new tires on, also pulling both rear axles for the clicking tsb. also putting me in a rental. i also have the floormat wear, the manager said no, but my service guy said hed hook me up w/some new ones when i drop it off this wed, i guess ill see? they wouldnt do crap w/my seat bolster though, or with my trans, as it seems very notchy hard to shift, grinds only sometimes but has pop'd out a gear a few times. but at least i have it noted now. i asked if they could adjust my headlights up cause i can see ****(i know i need hids) and apparrently they didnt do that so ill hit em up again this wed. but all in all, they have taken care of all the complaints ive had. wel anyway thats my 2cents.

At least they're taking care of some of your car problems as opposed to the clowns at my service dept, hate to even call it that, who basically refuse to do TSB work.

Sedan G35s have same size wheels front and rear so you can rotate to even out the wear. Can't do that on the coupe (or Z)

other than the rumbling noise from the feathered tyres, are there any other issues (eg. safety) with the feathered tyres?

my 03 front tires were replaced and frontend re-aligned at 9k miles under warranty....now at 18000 miles....no more tire feathering issues. i guess the new alignment spec. fixed the problem.

Default Tire Wear

There is no fix for the tire wear issue as of yet. It is a matter of geometry since NNA screwed it up when making the car and now won't admit it. I'm awaiting a trial date as I write this under the NJ Lemon Law. I offered to trade the car in for an Infinity, with me paying the difference, and they told me to go F myself.
Miranda Carter from NNA even accused me of lying and making up the problems I've had with the car. They have pissed me off so much I'm fighting them until the bitter end. Luckily my lawyer is pro-bono and NNA pays at the end. Hopefully, this will cost them at least 60k over the refund cost of the car.

At 7k miles I had feathering on the RE040s. At that point had the TSB performed and they still wore unevenly.

I went Goodyear F1 GS-D3s a year ago at 15k miles, at 26k miles no, feathering. I also installed the hotchkis springs and sways at the same time and had an alignemt done.

Nissan paid for my front F1s and the alignment when they were installed.

Just had the alignment checked and corrected this past weekend as i took a hit on the left front a few weeks ago. (4 wheel alignment). Will probably keep the stock tires for a few more thousand miles then ditch them for some F1's or somthing similar. The tire/road noise seems to be slightly increasing, but still not enough at this point to change tires. Some of it is just dependant on the smoothness of the road surface.
