I cleaned out my motor about 5 times last year. Each time the motor would last about 2 weeks before another cleaning had to be done. I finally gave up and will have to buy a refurbished motor from Advance.

What sucks is I have a 2002 Dodge Caravan with no problems on any interior electrical parts. It's got 81k miles on it.

My 2003 Z has 43k and I've had to replace one window motor under warranty and now this driver side is no longer working. Whoever designed the motor needs a can of whoopass opened on him or her.

+1, I wouldn't mind strapping them up to a pole and pegging them to death with broken window motors.

Summer is coming up soon and my window is already going to shiet. Even if you clean the motor or replace with another one, this flawed component eventually fails.

I just wanted to add that if anyone is buying a window motor from Auto Parts Warehouse, you can get 15% off if it is over $150 by using the code TRACK15 or if you get a cheaper refurbished part you can use the code AFFCJP5 for $5 off. Not much, but $5 is $5. Both codes worked as of the date of this post.

Well, I finally gave in and bought a new motor. VO, mine wasn't near as dirty as yours but dirty enough. I took apart the old motor last night and cleaned it out just to see the contacts.

As you can see, after I cleaned it out with the CRC cleaner, it looked like some corrosion on one of the contacts.

The other side was much cleaner and sprung back easier.

Anyway, I figured a newer motor was the way to go. Just finished installing it and got it to work after I figured out that I needed to reset the window motor. Success!

Well, I just replaced the motor again today.
So I want to say THANK YOU again to Vo for making this thread!

one concern, though:

Everytime you open the door, the window slide down just a bit, right?
But I notice that it slide down a way more than the original one. It's still normal in operation but that irritates me a bit. Should we adjust it back and HOW?

finally got around to doing this and I have got to say great writeup VO and yes painters tape works very well as I wasn't too keen on having duct tape on my tint, just glad to know it worked.

The no residue is a huge plus at the end and the window didn't even budge when i got around to pulling out the old motor!

I gone through this whole thread and no one has mention a similar problem to mines.
So here's my dilema,
My windows sometimes work and sometimes don't. Like I have notice that at times, when I close my door, the light on the window switch and all components on door are not lit up, thats when my windows don't work. I have to open the door ALL THE WAY OPEN and I see the light turn on and then my window will work, but as soon as I close the door halfway the light turns off and my window doesn't respond again lol.

Any ideas of what my problem could be?

Thumbs up Thanks! Great Thread!

My passenger side window just went out on me. After looking at the process I think I will just opt for a new motor than attempting to clean my old one (fearful that it will die on me again).

Also, this week Advanced Auto has 15% off their orders online over $100 and free shipping. That's where I'm getting mine!

Thanks again!

Just be sure your getting a new motor and not a rebuilt one.

very nice writeup. Guys I fixed my passenger side window that was bad for like 1 1/2 year now and went ahead bought the brushes and voila!! it works. I highly recomend this to anyone that has mechanic/electronic skills.
I followed these instructions:

had mine fail a few months ago (75km). Cleaned out, worked like new for about 2 months, then started to crap out again.

Dealer wants $500 for a new motor, NAPA was $280 I think (canada). Considering I won't even have windows in a year or so, Im just going to live with it. Might try and replace the brushes.

Hello, I'm new here but am having a window issue myself. I just bought the car, and the passenger window doesn't do down or up when I open my door. And also, if I pull all the way up, for the window to go up on its own, it goes all the way up and then comes down a quarter of the way. To get it to stay, I have to manually hold the switch halfway. The dealership said it's a computer issue and they can just hook up a computer to it and fix it, and that I can program my window to do whatever I want. Is this true?
