Just finished reading all 17 pages. My window is stuck in the down position. I ordered my motor and just waiting for it to come. Does the window have to be in the up position to do this swap? If so how do you get the window up? My banging and shutting the door does not work. I did read that someone manually brought their window up. Is that ok to do. Just don't want to screw anything else up.

Thanks to all the hard work put in by you guys. Wish me luck!

Don't take my word on this because I'm not 100% sure... but putting in the window motor while its down should be ok as long as you do the reset procedure...
but when the window is down, can you get to the window motor. Either way I think doing the reset procedure after your done will fix it, if you manually bring the window up.

Just finished putting in my new motor and it works great. My and a buddy did it in about hour and half. If you follow each step you shouldn't have any problems. I would for sure have someone help put it back together as it works better with four hands getting everything where it needs to go. Also make sure you reset the motor as when I first tested it nothing happened and I was totally freaked out. But once we reset the motor it went up and even shut like it was suppose to do. Truly amazing.

Thanks so much for the great pictures and support on this thread. Good luck to all how use this guide and stick it to the Dealers! Now I can drive to work with my window up and not freeze.

Another success story, driver side on 2003. Not a problem. Yes, I could have used a couple of extra hands but none showed up so I did it by myself and it works fine. Couple of tips : the square hole where the motor hooks up is the same size as a 3/8" drive, so if you need to move it a bit just stick your ratchet in it. And, be careful what tape you use to hold the window up, you can end up more time cleaning the tape then doing the job.

Used Advance Auto Parts (Cardone), $133 + $25 core later refunded, lifetime warranty.

yes you are correct cleaing the motor only prolongs it for it a little while. I have found some carbon brushes at the harware store that almost fit perfectly. A little sanding and they work fine two for $7.00. Cut the brush off close to the wire and use a JR Style Servo Lead Connectors, $6.00 at the hobby shope to join the wires. clean the motor and it should run fine. I did it for the fifth bow motor and 10 cycles so far.

Good luck Eddie.

Default Window motor

Got a price Q for $1K to replace both motors from my dealer for my G35. They would not give me a goodwill discount despite the long documented history of the motor failures. Thanks to the great DYI, I knocked it out in less than 2 hours for both. Advise getting someone to help lift window into position when re-assemblying and getting a very large phillips bit to remove the 3 screws attaching motor to mount. Nice to have $540 in my pocket. I purchased OEM motors. I can do this in my sleep now.

For someone that isn't experienced with removing body panels other than installing a stereo in the Z how long will this reasonably take? I had both motors go on me in the last week so I'll be spending this weekend replacing them. Luckily I get paid on Friday so I can buy 2 new motors. This will be the 4th motor on each side, the last 2 replacements were under warranty at the dealer... groan.

Need help guys! I cant get the motor back into the spindle. Its really starting to **** me off. I was cleaning the motor, and the shaft moved a little which is causing the problem now. Any suggestions???

Update: I gave up and ended up buying a new motor. The brushes on the old one were practically worn down anyways...so just a matter of time.

My driver side Window rolls down but not up. I have to open the door and close it ...then hit the switch again for the window to go up. Do you guys think this is a motor issue or switch issue? Thanks for any kind of help!!

That was how mine started as well. It never had issues going down but started to have issues going up or would go up very slowly. Eventually it just gave out entirely.

Also wanted to stop in and say thanks to the OP, this took me about an hr and a half for my driver side. I'll be doing the passenger side in about a week and having already done it once it will probably only be about an hr. Then to get windows re-tinted (its gotten beat up over the last 7 years) and I'll be good to go again

Default One official thanks...

One more official thanks for the DIY on the window motor repairs. I followed the directions and made a few mistakes along the way. I tried to improve MASTER VO7848's instructions...I've got a PDF file with similar instructions. PM me with your email if you want them. (I don't know if I can post the file?)

2003, with 20,000 miles and it's on it's 3rd passenger side window motor! 2 by the dealer and this one by me.

Default updated picture with socket size

just an example of the door view...I added socket size and some detail on the fasteners that may need a screw driver. Hope it helps.

Is the motor, bro. WHen you close the door you "hit" it and it works again. My driver door did it, and of course, always got stuck down. If you keep slamming the door to make it work other things will break. I did the driver, and right away the next week the passenger side started to do the same identical thing. So, did the motor, all is well for now.

You can also tell because when you move the switch you will hear a click, but the window won't move. The click means the switch IS making contact, the motor just won't go.

While in the conversation, I hate these are "smart motors" and thus so expensive. If they were dumb with a side box for the "smarts" it wouldn't cost so much to replace them.

I did the window reset 2-3 weeks ago and I thought I had resolved my passenger window problem. Today in the morning I rolled down both my windows down, Now I can't get the passenger window to go up. I will do the rest again.

I noticed that click you mentioned so Im almost sure it will be the motor. But I am unsure as my Power Mirrors stopped working too and I believe that was after the passenger window died today. Power Mirrors were working yesterday.

Do you guys think I might have another problem? I was going to start a new thread but I guess I can post here.

Might be the BCM? Harness? Or window motor?
