The dealership said it's a computer issue and they can just hook up a computer to it and fix it, and that I can program my window to do whatever I want. Is this true?
I doubt that what the dealer is saying is true... if they aren't charging you more than maybe $50 and they will warrant that the issue is fixed after they "reprogram" the window, it may be worth a shot. The first thing I would try is taking the door panel off and pressing the reset button on the window motor, if that doesn't fix it... the motor likely needs replacing.

Sorry to say, but you are SOL I am on my 3rd motor(even did the clean method a few times). I just put a new motor in last week(free w/ lifetime warranty) took about 2.5hrs to do both sides(could be faster, but I like to have a few cold ones)

that thread shows that the motor's BRUSHES wear out. Cleaning the brushes is only a temporary fix, eventually they will wear out to where they will no longer touch the magnet. I found new brushes for both my window motors for $10.00 a pair at a hobby shop, you might be able to find them cheaper.

It took me about 3hrs to repair each motor, and cost me $41.87 for equipment and supplies. If you have the time, its really not that difficult.

i mean i guess it could be the brushes.. but within a year im on my 3rd driver side motor.. and when ever i roll down my windows i always roll down both. The passanger side has never crapped out on me yet.

..So i am tryin to figure out what causes my driver-side motors seem to die so fast? maybe i over tighten the bolts holding the window tracks, so the motor has to do extra work to move them? idk..

Tip:
Try closing your door, not slamming it, and holding the button UP at the same time. It's a little temporary trick to get your stuck window up for the time being.

I just ordered a window motor from Autozone.

I want to do this myself and avoid spending $300 on an install...but I've never done any car or electrical work in the past. I still fresh to the car scene.

In total I'm spending about $440...F*** that window motor.

how do you adjust the four sided bolt on the back of the motor to get it lined up to the female side of the internals? I tried turning it and it didnt work. My motor wont bolt in without adjusting it.

jkc350z that 'bolt' is part of the motor that turns. dont force it! just plug the window controls back in and keep lightly pushing down the button til it lines up. dont push the button too much and engage the auto function, it wont stop turning haha

Did it myself, don't waste $ having someone install it, it's easy.

Default door

i think there is a easier way to work on the motor
here is the way i doo it
after the door panel is removed i remove the three bolts(10mm) circled in black in the pic that hold the window to the regulator.
after i pull the window out i remove the bolts(9 or10 bolts 10mm) that hold the metal panel with the motor and regulator on it, and have the whole thing outside of the car
this way you don't have the motor and the regulator just hanging in there
if you have any questions PM me or just post here i don't mind taking my door apart to take some pics

The replacement's at Autozone and Advanced Auto are ok to use? I we don't need to order from Nissan?

I did the cleaning 2 years ago and it's happening again, so I'm just going to buy a new motor.

You could try cleaning them with some type of degreaser.

Also, this week Advanced Auto has 15% off their orders online over $100 and free shipping. That's where I'm getting mine!

Thanks again!

The ones from Autozone/Advanced work just fine. Mine is still alive and kicking...

Thanks, I think I was confusing buying rotors from Advanced Auto. I've heard they're not good quality and stick with OEM.

I'll pick up a new motor today.

VO: Awesome write up! I haven't been here for a long time but now my 03 Brickyard motor is dead. Include me in the group of door panel beaters when the window won't go back up.

The dealer wants $108 for the hour of "diagnosis" (I already removed the panels and all they had to do was look at the motor, hit the button and see that it is dead) which I had already done.

Then they want $316.00 for the motor (they said it'll take over a week since it has to come from Japan)

Then they want nearly $300.00 labor to install the new motor.

I am going to buy mine from Auto Zone and follow your DIY.

One question. Is there anything you can do for/to that greased up brush that causes the now infamous grease streak on our windows? I know there is a TSB from Nissan that came out in April 03 but the dealer wants to charge me for that too.

Again, THANKS for the GREAT write up!

The Doc.

I just replaced both of mine and both of mine streak. I gave up on the clearning the brushes and just wipe my windows down after I have used them. At least I can open the damn windows now.
