my turn
well 3 scenarios cause a timing DTC
1. cam timed wrong, you are pulling it apart to reset timing
2. cam sensor problem (sensor or trigger on cam), may need to be pulled apart
3. solenoid is somehow jammed causing an advance, easy fix
scenario 1 will show an advance of about 7* being a tooth off when you monitor
scenario 2 will show either 270* or just show nothing
scenario 3 maybe diagnosed with just unplugging your solenoids, car will start fine (just no power over 3000rpm)

Bank 2 solenoid was leaking, tightened it down and still got a p0021 code, but idles much better and no random misfire
I need to look up the torque on the solenoid bolts and get a new gasket I suppose

12Nm
Thanks bro
On another note, when the code showed up earlier today I could actually feel a decrease in power because I was accelerating at a constant rate and when the light popped up, it was a definite difference in power. New oil and filter quieted the motor down a lot

well, im getting really frustrated. yesterday it was running fine with the exception of that 0021 code every once in a while, but then later in the day it started clattering really bad at idle again (see video). only thing i can think of is that it doesnt get oil pressure at idle, cause if i rev it at all, then the clattering goes away. i have spare solenoids and both cam sensors so i will probably just swap those 4 parts over from my old motor to see if does anything different. any other ideas what would cause this noise?
ouch, that video sounds terrible, have you logged what your vtc is doing yet??? That can maybe narrow down the issue. I hated being in this spot when I first got my motor running... I am very much so looking forward to working on my next project car with a much simpler motor, haha
(PS, I already know what I am going to do)

Mrgrotel, keep up the good fight and get it fixed!!!
He is going Fix this.. I done my own Engine.. Learned a lot of it.. not many people can say that. What Classy say's there a lot of threads that it goes wrong at the shops.. so yes if you don't know how to change oil leave it to the shops and hope your lucky and get it done as it should be. can you work on the engine and have the right tools, go for it.. And so what, you take it a part again.. thats the game... just go for it and use the Nissan book for reference. get stuck were to help out.

put on a spare bank 2 solenoid and have gone 55 miles without a code, normally it would have thrown the code about 3 times already. but still have the bad noise at idle, sounds great and has good power above idle though. ill get on osiris eventually and see if something looks odd. i hope its not the damn revup oil pump, that ***** was brand new.
i am very confident that what is going on in there had nothing to do with assembly, but a bad part instead.

it idles about 600rpm and it is stable. throttle response is great, and no noises at all whatsoever after it comes off idle, power seems good too. if i had the idle set high, it would never make a noise and no one would think anything was wrong with it, no codes anymore either. idk, i think oil pressure just drops when its idling
