Brought my 06 touring MT into the dealership today after oil level dropped from high to low in 1900 miles since last oil change at dealership.
They changed my belts, did an oil change and started the oil consumption test. I am to report back to the dealer in exactly 1000 miles so they can check the level again. What comes next? Anyone have problems getting this done being the 2nd owner of the car?
My car has 37,000 miles on it. Still under warranty. Runs and drives great.

will nissan replace the motor even if the car is out of 60k warranty? im at about 70k right now.
thing is, i had it replaced before and the new one still burnt oil. am i SOL?

Hey man i have a 06 350z i had 46,060 miles on my car im the second owner of this vehicle, i blew the motor and it took nissan 8 months to say they were going to fix it... if they say anything they have a recall on the low oil light because it doesnt turn on when the oil is low

True, we are all cousins!
That does not surprise me since most of the 05-06 are about to go out of warranty. Seems they are trying to cut their losses by going with the short block. Maybe because they know it will limp the engine along until it falls out of warranty and then TBSS (too bad so sad). It just a hunch on the dark side.
Be interesting to see if Nissan revises their TSB. I will have to keep an eye on that website for TSB’s. Hopefully someone with a recent engine replacement (after Aug 1st) will chime in with answer (short block or long block).
So you are gonna start charging me a consultant fee now that you are getting deep into the oil business. Should I take out any stock? Seriously that is great, that stuff starting going over my head when they started using words I cannot pronounce let alone spell. I have a sample from last OCI dated May20, I am gonna have to email Terry and see if it’s still any good to send in for a UOA. Then I got another oil change coming up this weekend, so it will be if any only one car’s oil going in both times $100 x 2 = $200 = ouch. Gonna send in my oil since I beat on the car more than the bro and my OC is greater than his, but not in any danger levels. It’s still worth it and a UOA is still your best friend.

I'm annual UOA's now if I wish, but want to see analysis results after my experiements...muhahahha. If you can interpret the numbers and don't need the tuning commentary, try Dyson RAW. It's cheaper and still uses the same 'ISO accredited' lab. Agree...UOA's are your best friend. How many 'years' we been saying that lol.
There's exciting products/formulations happening. You should re-visit and poke around if your subscript is still valid.

There is a new TSB that came out on July 30th 2010.
This is how I found out:
Went to dealer to have oil consumption test done. Came back in 1200 miles and engine oil was 15mm low. Dealer said they are ordering a short block and I ask why if the TSB calls for a long block. Tech takes me over to his PC and shows me new TSB NTB07-008d, see attached pdf of first page.
I REALLY don't want the dealership taking apart the engine and putting it back together with a new short block mostly because I don't trust them(will try to find a dealer I can trust and have test done again). I told them to cancel the order.
Has anyone had just the short block replaced by the dealership without a horror story to tell?
I'm really torn now because I was expectng a long block replacement which is pretty simple, but don't want them tearing the engine apart and reassembling it.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I think my z is burning oil again... when I get to about 1000 miles or so you can't really notice anything but after 1500 to 2000 is almost bellow the "L" on the stick. Im gonna take the vehicle again.

This seems to be the new trend...shortblocks. Read a couple G35 revups recently get shortblocks. No horror stories so far.

Well, as I write this the local dealers is removing the second replacement engine and installing a third replacement engine. This will be my fourth break in period. I can recite it backwards I know it so well.

I thought maybe they were blowing smoke, but maybe not since they actually went ahead and replaced yours?

I thought maybe they were blowing smoke, but maybe not since they actually went ahead and replaced yours?
