"Z" winter drivers question ?

"Z" winter drivers question ?

Hi guys,i'm new to the forum a nd would like to know your experience driving a Z with winter tires in the snow?
I reside in Canada where we have good snow falls periodically but not all the time. The road are mostly clean in the winter but there's always some days with heavy snow. I never had to call and miss work with my mini cooper during snowfalls. Is this car manageable with good winter tires or it's all over the road even with traction control. Unfortunatly i will have to drive it in the winter so i'm asking your feedback only from those that experienced regular winter driving.
Thanks for any comments,love the Z and i hope to buy that car if it's possible.

Z belongs in a Garage during any Snow or ICE...

Like anything if you a good driver youll be ok in snow.. But no ****ing way during ice storms or sleet etc....

We just had sleet, freezing rain, snow then more sleet, freezing rain and snow. I couldn't get out of my subdivision on the first day, then I couldn't get out of my driveway. Very emasculating. At least I put the car cover on before the storms came, so it looked really good sitting marooned in my drive.

I've got an 03 touring I picked up last July and I've been driving it all winter. So far I've had more control over this car then any fwd car I've owned, the only issues have been trying to get it to turn over at -10F and getting traction from a full stop. I'm still on the stock tires, I'm sure you'll have better traction with some winter tires on.

To be honest, I'm loving driving in the snow but I'm scared to death of ice. My only suggestions are play it safe and don't push it too hard while it's still warming up.

I have toyo observe garets on my G and only lost it twice so far but that was nothing serious, recovered fine. Neither time was actually during storm, black ice after storm...haha.

No problems here driving in snow. Good snow tires are a must though as with any car.

Exactly. This is my 3rd winter in the Z and no problems yet. It doesnt look pretty, but it definitely gets the job done!

Another vote for Blizzaks. I put the LM-25's on mine and it's been great in the snow, the only time I couldn't get out of the driveway was when we had 1 1/2 feet last week. My sister's Explorer couldn't even get out of her neighborhood.

The only other time I had a problem with the Z was last month when all the roads in town were covered in ice, THEN it rained to make matters MUCH worse. That night was seriously the worst road conditions I'd ever seen, I almost went blind driving down the road from all the police lights on the side of the road helping all the people who slid off. The Z got a little squirelly, but I kept it under 10 mph and got home safely. I think the key to winter driving is taking your time-- give yourself plenty of time to get to work and you won't rush around, which it what I think causes the most winter accidents.

Had to drive my Z once in the snow to pick up my girlfriend from work and it was all over the place. If I was an unexperienced driver it would have been in a guardrail. But I have summer tires because I normally don't drive it this time of year, so I'm sure that capable tires it would be worlds better. I can't see it being "good" though.

If you have snow tires you'll be ok. It won't be an Audi but drive according to the conditions and you'll be ok. I commute 60km's to work and have not missed a day despite the fact that Ontario has received more snow this year than I've ever seen before.

Drive safe, don't write off your Z
