Default Break-in - how to do it right!

I see alot of people asking when to change the oil, when to start hammering on the motor, what oil to use, how to vary the RPMs, etc etc. I constantly answer these questions about break-in with one simple link. This method is considered controversial by some. I have used this method on all of my break-ins on new motors (cars, bikes, pocket bikes, 4 wheels) and have had nothing but good luck with it. Mods, please sticky!

Now for the MotoTune Break-in....

I break-in HOES now!!! Get em walkin funny....one hoe at a time (sometimes 2 or 3). lmao.
same old sh*t over here. You get wasted on new years?

MOTOTUNE: I forgot to mention that with my experiences with this break-in (or any for that matter), the DYNO break-in mototune describes is, hands down, the best way. Its fast (break it in in 15 minutes), puts the car under load, and yields more power than any other method.

Drive it like you stole it.....
Its under warranty until you mod it.
My new Camaro I drove like that and it never gave me any problems same with my G-ride the "Ford Ranger" Never had any problems besides heater coil.

Old School, that's not nice. There is a sticky at the top of this forum regarding break in and we always refer people to it. Now, why don't you look yourself.

Drive it at 2K rpm. You should be fine until you trade it in.

I listed both forum sections as I posted in the 350Z forum and then a mod moved it to the Engine forum. I see nothing about break-in. Its all good though, since I get so much crap for reposting, I just won't help point ppl in the right direction anymore. Its rediculous how some of you are so stuck on being a hall monitor, you forget why we're all here. Its a damn same too. Been building cars for a long time. Been helping out alot of ppl. Even offered to help clean some members' cars before and during the next show this month. Guess I better adopt the hall monitor mentality and start worrying about reposts, inaccurate statements, calling BS on street races that could have happened, and start giving members a hard time for voicing their opinions instead of actually contributing to the Z community. You guys are pathedic.

Nitrouz and efx...good to see you guys keep your sense of humor.

I don't mind double checking myself. I went back to look and was like "wtf is he talkin about?" lol.

This is true, it is on plenty of forums. Just not this one. Some ppl hate it, some ppl love it, but most don't even know about it. But when I buy a new motor vehicle and I break it in this way....I'm sorry, but to get a factory freak every single time I buy new....its just not gonna happen. So it must be something I'm doing....hence the link . Wish I bought the Z new, then it would show on the dyno.

Sharif @ Forged recommends and uses the same method. For my car it was built, run a conservative 150-200 miles then the oil was changed. Still running Dino oil the car is tuned on the dyno and street. I then changed the oil again (still no synthetic) at 1000 miles. Now I have close to 3000 miles with no oil burning or issues at all. To me the car has loosened up nicely and is no doubt making slightly more power. With only 300 or so miles on the motor I made 580whp on a Dynojet(pump gas), in this cold winter air no doubt I could do 600+whp on pump, I'll be redyoing one of these weekends to see what power if any Ive gained with more miles. FWIW-I broke my stock Z in very cautiously and that always ran very hard compared to other Z's so really stick with what your comfortable with

I remember reading that link, back when I used to race motorcycles twice a month.

Every engine builder will have a slightly different method of breaking in an engine. Most agree one thing: A super gentle break-in is not the best approach.

Having "some" kind kind of methodical approach to break-in is always a good idea. What we are doing now, is mostly dyno based break-in. Since we have a load based dyno, we can break-in an engine, with greater precision, and repeatability.

If you think about it, a road based break-in for 200 miles, can be replicated with a dyno based break-in in about 50 miles or less. With a road based break-in, the engine is under minimal load, about 90% of the time. When you drive on a car on the road, the vast majority of the time, is spent at idle, cruise, and light acceleration.

... and like I originally said, the last thing we need is another one of these threads. I'm afraid it's already been done many times before.

Engine builders will have their own methods for their own engines, just as manufacturers will have their own methods for their own engines. I tend to side with the person who built the engine, not the old school yahoo on the internet claiming he knows whats best for everyone.

BTW, I've got nothing but respect for sharif.

I wasnt really trying to challenge anyone. Old School....you uncovered some good information which has been posted many times before. I think that is what got people a little worked. It's very compelling..and new to you...but not new to everyone...no harm done.
